Aroeira
1 and 2, Lisbon Caparica TOP
COURSE RECOMMENDATION
A
former Portuguese Open venue, Frank Pennink's Aroeia 1 is
one of the best-established courses in the Lisbon area. A
classic parkland course close to the coast. The great scottish
course architect Donald Steel added the more strategic Aroeira
2 in 2000. We recommend both highly. If you are staying at
Caparica, these are the nearest courses. Terrain is lightly
undulating, so both courses are a comfortable to walk.
Belas
Golf, Lisbon west
Considered
a triumph for designer Willaim Roquemore, this 1997 course
combines modern course design techniques of the highest standard
with a superb setting just outside Lisbon. A spectacular looking
course over rolling countryside with mountain views. Excellent.
Beloura
Golf, Lisbon Sintra
This par 73 parkland course offers a very fair
challenge and a strong finish. A good course for mid-handicappers,
and for low handicappers to get their game in shape before
taking on the championship courses. An easy course to walk.
Campo
Real Golf, Lisbon north
A new Donald Steele course is always a cause for
celebration, and this classy layout doesn't disappoint. Set
in rolling countryside north of Lisbon.
Estoril
Golf, Lisbon west
A course with a great tradition, this is the oldest course
in the Lisbon region, designed by MacKenzie Ross of Turberry-fame,
and 20 times host to the Portuguese Open. It enjoys an imposing
location above Estoril, with sea views. Undulating parkland.
Golden
Eagle Golf, Lisbon north
This Rocky Roquemore course is one of Portugal's
"hidden gems", and deserves to be better-known.
Set in mature rolling countryside north of Lisbon, not far
from the famous Praia del Rey.
Oitavos
Dunes Golf, Lisbon Cascais TOP
COURSE RECOMMENDATION
When
it opened in 2001, Oitavos was widely hailed as one of the
finest links courses in mainland Europe, and was immediately
placed in Golf World's "Top 100 Courses in Europe"
at 33. A genuine links challenge next to the Atlantic Ocean.
It will be host to the Portuguese Open for the next 3 years.
Penha
Longa Golf, Lisbon Sintra TOP
COURSE RECOMMENDATION
This
Robert Trent Jones Jr. course is well established as one of
Portugal's top half-dozen courses, and a must for most visiting
golfers to the Estoril area. Laid out over mountain foothills,
around a 14th century palace, many historic features remain,
including an ancient aqueduct behind the 6th green.
Praia
del Rey Golf, Lisbon Silver Coast TOP
COURSE RECOMMENDATION
Rated
by America's "Golf Magazine" as the best course
in Portugal. We agree. A truely breathtaking course, mainly
links, on the west coast north of Lisbon. We can arrange villas
and apartments by the course, if you would like to base your
holiday there.
Quinta
da Marinha Golf, Lisbon Cascais
Robert
Trent Jones' well-established 1984 seaside course, mainly
level parkland and heathland with several lakes, and views
to the nearby Atlantic Ocean and the Sintra mountains. An
easy course to walk.
Quinta do Peru Golf, Lisbon Sesimbra TOP
COURSE RECOMMENDATION
This is one of the finest parkland courses you will find
anywhere. Every hole is a treasure, the setting is beautiful,
the quality is first-rate. If you have the chance, you must
play Peru - it is pure golfing pleasure. Lightly undulating
terrain makes this a comfortable walk. Designed by William
Roquemore
Santo Estevao
Golf, Lisbon east
The legendary course architect Donald Steele intended
this to be a course suitable for all levels of handicap. Lightly
undulating, an easy course to walk.
Ribagolf 1 and 2, Lisbon east
A rising star in Portuguese golf, Ribagolf provides a classy
golfing experience, aimed at attracting tour events. Both
the courses were cleverly intergrated among mature features.
With 3 sets of tees for men and 2 for ladies, you can play
the length of course to suit you. Ribagolf 1 is the longer
of the two courses. Both are a comfortable walk.
Troia
Championship Golf, Lisbon south TOP
COURSE RECOMMENDATION
Widely regarded as one of the best courses in the whole
of Europe, Robert Trent Jones' classic links is a course of
some mystique, set on a narrow peninsula jutting out into
the Atlantic. Sand dunes and tall Atlantic pines set the challenge.
A visit there will reward you with a stunning course right
next to the ocean that is rarely over-crowded. Not recommended
for high handicappers. A comfortable walk.
